Chapter 48 – Jayjay
Following the retreat from Baby 700 on 25 April, the Anzacs regrouped and dug in along a defensible line. Charles Bean describes in Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-18 , vol I how men of the 1st and 2nd Battalions and New Zealanders worked together over the following days under Colonel Braund of the 2nd Battalion to dig in and hold Walker’s Ridge (p. 314-320, 466, 509, 516). Bean records that Colonel Braund was “slightly deaf” (p. 599 note).
